Divine Mortal: The Oxymoron
The Concept We are divine in a spiritual sense, but mortal for sure. We will pass. I wanted to sit in that friction, the strength of the soul against the hurt of a body that has an expiration date.
The Marriage to the Ego I’ve never told people this, but the production always dictates the pen. When Riz played the beat for "Rustic Sounds," it sounded like a wedding ceremony. So, I wrote from that perspective, a marriage between me and my ego. I rapped about us never parting, though, in reality, I’m hoping we finally do.
The Masterclass"Stay Young Forever" is a technical peak for me. It’s a masterclass in flows, intentionality, and internal rhyming. There are some heavy lines in there that we’ll have to dissect another time, but from a writing perspective, it’s one of my favorites.
The Hustle"Hustle is My Only" happened in the studio. Riz played the beat, and I knew I couldn't leave without finishing it. I wrote the whole thing in about 15 minutes. It’s for everyone who’s been down and realized that the grind is the only thing that stays consistent.
The Staple I always end up making a song about my escapades with women on every tape. I don’t know why it’s become a staple, but "Lascivious" is exactly that. It’s a display of flows, rhyme schemes, and the kind of profane lyrics that show the "Unclean" side of the "Divine".
The Warning"Dangerous Amounts" is about a girl who drinks too much, unaware of the damage she’s doing. When I heard the clinking sounds in the production, I saw the story immediately. It’s a somatic look at addiction and the crisis of not knowing when to stop.
The Final Grace I ended the tape with "All Will Go." It’s a sad record, but a necessary one. It’s the reminder that no matter how "Mighty" we feel, we all pass eventually. "Some will stay, some will go late, some won't even get a chance to say grace."
