Don’t Feed the Birds: The Revolutionary Archive
The Purity Birds, specifically doves, are supposed to be clean. We shouldn't tamper with them or make them unclean. That’s where the title first came from, the idea of preserving something pure in a world that tries to stain it. Metaphorically this is.
The Lineage I usually stay away from politics, but this tape forced my hand. It’s a conscious, revolutionary project. I’ve woven in the voices of Nkrumah, Sankara, Samora Machel and Kwame Ture, men who understood the "Might" of our people. I’m a proud Ghanaian and a proud African; I couldn't be from anywhere else. This is my 1st testament to that heritage.
The Matriarch A lot of this tape is for my late grandmother. "I Really Miss My Nan" is self-explanatory, it’s the "Hurt" of losing. "Wonderful Pt. 1 & 2" continues that story. Part 2 might be my favorite record I’ve ever made; as soon as I started writing, the words just flowed and perfectly caught exactly how lonely I was feeling.
The Message "Keep Your Head Up Boy" is me talking to my people, telling them to never stop fighting for what they believe in. "I Hope It’s Alright" is a plea for us to stop hurting each other, a practice I’m trying to master myself.
The Tragedy "Lions Court Hotel" is one of my favorite records, but it’s heavy. I’m referencing the story of Agnes Wanjiru, whose body was found in a hotel. I’m layering that tragedy with my own sour relationships with women, connecting the external violence to the internal crisis.
