'Twas a Night In: The Internal Narrative
The Sanctuary I think if anyone actually listens to these records properly, they’ll know me better than I know myself. It feels dangerously vulnerable. I called this tape 'Twas a Night In because the house is my default state. Being in is an excuse not to face the "Torn World" outside. It’s safe in here.
The Opening I started the project with "Pray for Everywhere." It felt like the only way to open the door. Before I could talk about my own four walls, I had to acknowledge that the whole world needs grace right now.
The Disconnect "So Shall the Women Help" is a record about my own sadness. It’s about my inability to understand women, or even be understood by them. I titled it that way because men like me need so much help, but we’re the last ones to ever ask for it. It’s a quiet admission of a "Might" I haven't mastered yet.
The Lineage "Who Do You Believe In" is a remix of the Tupac record. It’s a trip to see that he was talking about the exact same things back then that I’m dealing with today. The struggle hasn't changed; the broken mirror just has a different reflection now.
The Confessional Then there’s "Listen." This was my attempt to break the commandments. I went through them, one by one, and talked about how I broke them. No polish, no hiding. Just a "Penalty of Genuineness" that I had to pay to get the record finished.
